The cynthia mort show television million
Note: The fast national results for Monday will be posted at
PIFeedback.com by 12 p.m. ET. Go to the website, click on Ratings Box
(the first category), then Last Night’s Results, and Monday,
July 28, 2008.
American Gladiators (NBC), High School Musical – Get in the
Picture (ABC), Nashville Star (NBC), Wanna Bet (ABC), The Mole (ABC)
Despite airing all repeats, CBS and Fox tied for first in the Monday
overnights, followed by NBC in the distant No. 3 spot. Fourth overall
was a depressed ABC. The CW, of course, was fifth.
Fox opened the evening on a winning note courtesy of a repeat of
underrated Bones at a 4.7 rating/8 share from 8-9 p.m. Next were
repeats of CBS’ The Big Bang Theory (3.8/ 7) and How I Met Your
Mother (3.8/ 6), followed by NBC’s American Gladiators (3.1/ 5),
colossal ABC dud High School Musical – Get in the Picture (2.6/
5), and a repeat of the CW’ Gossip Girl (1.1/ 2), which just
does not play well in non-originals. Did anyone really think a kids
themed show morphed into a reality/competition would work on a major
broadcast network? Wouldn’t airing on The Disney Channel been a
better idea? As for The Big Bang Theory, let’s hope more viewers
discover this laugh-out-loud gem next season…and beyond.
Repeats of CBS sitcoms Two and a Half Men (#1: 6.3/10 — top rated
show of the evening) and The New Adventures of Old Christine (#2: 5.0/
led the 9 p.m. hour overall in the metered markets. Second was a
repeat of Fox’s House at a 5.5/ 9. In the distant No. 3 spot was
NBC’s Nashville Star (3.2/ 5), which is still an improvement
over its former run on USA, followed by another ABC summer dud, Wanna
Bet (2.4/ 4), and a repeat of the CW’s One Tree Hill (1.0/ 2).
The CW will kick-off the new seasons of Gossip Girl and One Tree Hill
on Monday, Sept. 1 (Labor Day).
A repeat of CBS’ CSI: Miami won the 10 p.m. hour, with a 6.0/10
in the overnights. Next was NBC’s Dateline (4.1/ 7), which
managed to build by 21 percent out of the second half of lead-in
Nashville Star (3.4/ 5 at 9:30 p.m.), followed by ABC’s The Mole
at a mere 2.3/ 4. No…this was not a good night for ABC!
To keep you interested (which is certainly not easy in the summer),
here is the new prime-time Monday schedule beginning in September
(with new shows in caps):
Ignited by the Emmy buzz, season two of AMC drama Mad Men kicked-off
on Sunday, August 27 with 1.9 million viewers at 10 p.m. ET, according
to the preliminary nationals. Comparably, that was an increase of a
whopping 113 percent over Mad Men’s season one average.
Hannah Montana & Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds in 3D finished
Saturday, July 26 as the night’s top-rated telecast in total
viewers (5.9 million), kids 2-11 (2.2 million) and tweens 9-14 (1.8
million). Compared to the year-ago Saturday 8-9 p.m. time period
average, that was an increase of a hefty 3.2 million viewers and as
much as 83 percent among kids 2-11.
Based on Nielsen’s Live + 7 Day data, original episodes of Sci
Fi Channel’s Scare Tactics, Ghost Hunters International and
Stargate Atlantis all benefited. The new season of Scare Tactics
opened on Wednesday, July 9 with back-to-back episodes rising to the
show’s best performance in total viewers (2.1 million), adults
18-49 (1.2), adults 25-54 (1.2 million) and adults 18-34 (646,000)
since April 4, 2003. Results among adults 18-34 were its best to-date.
Ghost Hunters International, also on July 9, opened with its best
performance demographically since the series premiere in January. And
Stargate Atlantis on Friday, July 11 increased to its best delivery in
total viewers (2.4 million), adults 18-49 (1.3 million) and adults
25-54 (1.4 million) since its season four finale in March.
Based on national ratings through July 13, 2008, what follows is an
updated track for all syndicated game shows in households and two key
demos — women 25-54 and adults 25-54. Change versus the comparable
year-ago period appears in parentheses for all established series.

Yesterday, I had the opportunity to view an episode of Family Court
With Judge Penny from Program Partners, which premieres on Monday,
Sept. 8. Presided over by Judge Penny Brown Reynolds, who began life
as an impoverished child raised by a single mother, what immediately
set this court show apart was the relationship aspect of the case.
Instead of wondering whether or not the 18-year-old son of a troubled
mother would win the $1,000 he was suing her for, the relationship
between the two took center stage under the guidance of a completely
relatable Judge Penny. With so much court gutting the airwaves, you
have to bring something unique to the table. And what gives Family
Court With Judge Penny an edge is the focus on themes of a more family
and relationship oriented nature. For more on Family Court With Judge
Penny, listen to today’s PIPodcast at www.marcberman.tv.
Former Dancing With the Stars sensation Mario Lopez has been upgraded
to host of veteran Warner Bros. magazine strip Extra. Lopez, who has
been a correspondent for the show and anchor of the weekend edition
since January 2007, will take over the anchor chair on Monday, Sept.
15. Current Exta co-host Dayna Devon will remain as a correspondent,
while Mark McGrath will leave to focus on his music career.
HBO has reversed its decision to produce a second season of Tell Me
You Love Me and has axed the freshman relationship drama. “Despite the
best efforts of everyone involved, we were unable to find the
direction of the show for the second season,” said creator Cynthia
Mort in a statement.
Remember The Streets of San Francisco, the Quinn Martin crime drama
with Karl Malden and Michael Douglas that aired on ABC from 1972-77?
CBS has a contemporary remake in the works with a pilot that is being
written by Numb3rs producer Robert Port and The Longest Yard writer
Sheldon Turner. No casting has been announced at present.
Cable net G4, the destination for young males, has picked-up British
comedies Freaky and The Peter Serafinowicz Show for its “Duty
Free TV” programming block. Freaky features six young performers
who are anything but typical magicians, while sketch comedy The Peter
Serafinowicz Show showcases the British comedian in parodies of
celebrities, TV series, films and commercials. The Peter Serafinowicz
Show debuts on Friday, August 1 at 8:30 p.m. ET, followed by Freaky at
9 p.m. ET.

Which one of the following TV characters would you most likely find in
a bar called The Loose Caboose?
Is: d) Sara Rush of sitcom Too Close for Comfort, which was later re-
titled The Knight Show in first-run syndication.
According to NBC, the Wednesday 8-11:44 p.m. average for the Summer

2000 (16.5/27).

I had the chance to sit down with a personal favorite, Bonnie Hunt.
After five short-lived comedies, Bonnie is trading prime time for
daytime as host of Warner Bros. Domestic Television
Distribution’s talker The Bonnie Hunt Show, which premieres on
Sept. 8.
